Students will learn the basics of solid waste and landfill operations, environmental concerns with waste handling facilities, screening for prohibited materials, mapping special waste, the fundamentals of landfill construction, gas management and groundwater monitoring issues with closed landfills. Students also receive continuing education credit and a Certificate of Attendance.
Students have multiple opportunities to receive continuing education through these courses. Students can gain knowledge on health and safety, types of landfills, regulations and by-products of modern landfills, as well as learn about the varied aspects of Solid Waste Management.
These are self-paced online courses, which consist of presentations, exercises, and self-grading quizzes. Some courses have a final exam requirement with 70% proficiency.
