The University of Florida TREEO Center is proud to introduce its brand-new asbestos training room, a cutting-edge facility designed to elevate asbestos abatement training to new heights. Replacing a structure that had served students since the early 1980s, this 16×20-foot training space represents a significant leap forward in both functionality and design.

UF TREEO Awarded $75,000 Federal Grant to Develop English and Spanish Training Materials for Ladder and Stairway Safety

The University of Florida’s Training, Research and Education for Environmental Occupations (UF TREEO) Center is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $75,000 Training & Education Materials Development grant from the U.S. Department of Labor through the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. This funding will support the development of comprehensive Ladder and Stairway Safety training materials aimed at enhancing safety for workers in construction and general industries.

On May 17, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 382 into law, bringing significant changes to the continuing education requirements for certain professional licenses in Florida. This new legislation exempts specific licenses from the need for ongoing continuing education.

In Memoriam: Carol Hinton – A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication

With a heavy heart, I share the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Carol Hinton. Carol served as the Director of the UF Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations (TREEO) Center from May 2010 until her retirement in March 2021. Under her leadership, the center offered 6,606 classes and trained 27,358 students in environmental occupations such as Water and Wastewater, Backflow, Solid Waste, and Asbestos. These courses, delivered at the TREEO Center, across the state, and beyond, were crucial in training the next generation of industry professionals who maintain our nation’s critical infrastructure.
