Senate Bill 382 (2024) – Continuing Education Requirements
On May 17, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 382 into law, bringing significant changes to the continuing education requirements for certain professional licenses in Florida. This new legislation exempts specific licenses from the need for ongoing continuing education.
While the Asbestos Licensing Unit is included in the exemption provided by SB 382, it is important to note that this exemption does not meet federal requirements. Florida Licensed Asbestos Consultants and Contractors (FLAC’s) must still comply with the EPA’s Model Accreditation Plan (MAP) requirements. This means that, despite the exemptions offered by SB 382, annual asbestos refresher courses remain a mandatory requirement for FLAC’s.
In summary, due to federal requirements and the upcoming start of the biennial renewal process, asbestos licensees are required to complete their continuing education requirements for the current biennial licensure cycle (December 1, 2022 – November 30, 2024).
University of Florida TREEO Center will continue to offer asbestos refresher training in both classroom and online formats.
