UF TREEO Instructor Bill Dempsey Earns Certified Instructional Trainer® (CIT) Certification

At the UF TREEO Center, we pride ourselves on our dedication to knowledge advancement, which includes the continued professional development of our staff and instructors. We’re pleased to announce that Bill Dempsey, an Asbestos and Health & Safety instructor for TREEO, recently earned his Certified Instructional Trainer® (CIT) certification.

The CIT® is a credential provided by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals® (BCSP) for professionals with demonstrated experience and expertise in developing, designing, and delivering safety, health, and environmental training. Most importantly, this certification bridges the gap between simply knowing a subject and effectively teaching it.

To earn this certification, candidates must complete at least 135 hours of teaching, training, or development in any safety, health, and environmental specialty and successfully pass the CIT® examination.

This certification enhances the already exceptional training experience TREEO students receive, ensuring instruction methods are grounded in proven educational best practices.

A Note From Bill Dempsey

I earned my Certified Safety Professional® (CSP) credential in 2017, after 20+ years in the Health, Safety, and Environmental industry. Over time, I was encouraged by supportive leaders to step into training roles, and in 2020 I began training as my company’s HAZWOPER instructor. That experience showed me how much I enjoy helping people learn and gain confidence in their work.

I pursued the CIT® certification because training and mentoring others are the most meaningful parts of my career. The CIT® reflects my belief that good training is about connecting with learners and making information practical and usable.

Since becoming a UF TREEO instructor in 2023, I’ve had the opportunity to train both new and experienced professionals. The CIT® helps me better support their different learning needs and reaffirm my commitment in making a positive learning experience for students. We only have a limited time on this earth, and I want to be a positive influence for others in the HSE industry. I’m proud of the quality of training that UF TREEO provides and am doubly proud to be one of their instructors.

“Bill has been an invaluable member of our UF TREEO instructor team, bringing extensive experience as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager® (CHMM), Certified Safety Professional® (CSP), and Florida Licensed Asbestos Consultant (FLAC) to both our asbestos and health and safety programs. Earning his new CIT® designation reflects his passion for teaching excellence and his commitment to ensuring every student receives the highest-quality learning experience.” – Melissa Hamilton, Program Manager Asbestos, Health & Safety.
